We found both of these ourselves in the last couple of days, and in fact I think this morning's snapshot should have the fixes. We've got a habit of running with debugging :-), and only test without it occasionally. And the kernelpatch problem was hidden because of the smart code that avoids re-applying the patch if it's already been applied, so we didn't find that one until one of us happened to start from scratch on a virgin kernel (again, something that happens only occasionally).

Caution: the user-level utilities have changed since 0.7, and this will affect setup scripts. I'll leave it to Richard to make a more detailed diagnosis.
