The main change between RH4.2 and RH5.x is the use of glibc. The changes between RH5.0 and RH5.1 are mainly in the applications area and as such appear relativly inconsequential to linux-ipsec, I would guess that RH5.2 would be similar.

glibc compatibility is IMHO essential. Redhat is already using it and Debian will be using it in the very near future.

My (limited) experience is that it is easier to backport applications written for glibc to libc5 than port libc5 apps to glibc.
