linux-ipsec: Bit, bytes, and HEX

I am still trying to get the current snapshot working and now I notice that there is a snow storm of different metrics used in the FreeS/WAN documentation.
Somtimes you use no metric at all (the recent error messages that I have bitched about), some times you use bit as in the un-installed man pages, sometimes folks talk about bytes and never does anyone use the units that a sysadmin would have to use, hexadecimal digits!   This needs to get standardized, and the doc needs to at least convert to units that are used (what good is bits to a shell script writer?).
