Nothing obvious, except that I want to eliminate any possible problems. I guess arp is the only thing that comes to mind at the moment, and the interface is usually configured with the NOARP flag. I simply want fewer variables to work with when debugging problems. If your setup is working peachy-fine, then change the broadcast address to whatever your heart desires and then you can thumb your nose at me.
