I tried to use the atodata(x, 0, NULL, 0) command to get an idea of how much space I needed to allocate for the answer, asuming I didn't need a valid destination until I was going to write to it, but the function coredumps. I even tried a pointer which had not yet had a valid chunk of memory allocated to it with the same result.

This defeats the purpose. I had to use a scratch variable to prevent it from spewing its guts....

Is it possible to get it to ignore the dst var until dstlen is non-zero?
