        Actually ended up doing both with same results both ways... Because I was switching back and forth between the 0.85 version and the latest snapshot, and I wanted to be sure to get a clean "make insert", I tried to start with fresh kernel sources when switching there. That generally meant that I rebuild from fresh sources over a dozen times, counting the alternate systems that I was building on.
