linux-ipsec: Any work done on an IPSec masq module?

Anyone out there done any work on or thought about doing a MASQ module(s) for IPSec?

I recently learned that the 2.0.x masq code does not support the BaySecure VPN (NewOak) Client/Server combo in IPSec mode. From my very limited knowledge of IPSec in general and the Free/Swan effort in particular, I also believe a Free/Swan IPSec will not be able to interpoerate with another IPSec device through a masq'd connection. If I am obviously wrong, can someone please set me straight?

Does anyone care to comment on the usefullness of masq support for IPSec in general? Is there a good reason to have masq'd IPSec support in the router if the router is cable of creating an IPSec tunnel for the LAN? I can think of some obvious advantages (push encryption processing back to the clients on the LAN) and disadvantages (configuring an IPSec stack on every client). Just curious what others think.

If all goes well and no one else is already inventing this wheel, myself or one of my collegues will probably implementing this beast.
