That's exactly the place we've been eyeing for fitting our code into 2.1.xx. It seems logical, and by the sounds of things, 2.1.xx has enough modularity in that area to make things fairly easy. (We'd still plan on kernel, not user-level, filtering, but that's a detail.)

However, moving our code to 2.1.xx will take some time and effort.
