No, hash results are not translated into network byte order (not in the IPsec code, anyway -- the hash function may be doing its own thing). There have been tests between big and little endian archs (i386, amiga, sparc) -- but I forget what combinations. I know that DES/3DES and MD5/SHA1 work between sparc and i386.

If by "not quite everyone" you mean the linux code, well, yeah -- that's because the latter is still under development, no ? :-)

The interop that I remember in Ottawa was pluto vs. SSH and the OpenBSD against 2-3 other implementations (a Solaris IPsec is the one I remember off the top of my head) -- perhaps Hugh is confusing those two ?
