linux-ipsec: DHCPd

I'm trying to get DHCPd running on one of the machines providing the VPN, and when I try to start it I get:

ipsec0 : unknown hardware type 768
exiting...

Does anyone have an idea for a workaround, or can I not run dhcpd on the same box, or do I need to run it before I bring the connection up?
