linux-ipsec: Re: Linux VPNs (fwd)
From: <russell(at)flora.ottawa.on.ca>
Date: Mon Jan 11 1999 - 16:16:23 EST I know this isn't ready yet, but I thought I would ask a 'How far down this road are we' type of a questions. Part I: I have a need (based on a new client locaed in India) to have a VPN setup, but where most of the connections are 'mobile'. Due to bandwidth costs, the satelite offices in India will be using Dialup connections to the national ISP (VNSL) or one of the new ISP's. I will be running a centralized dedicated server here in Canada (Since bandwidth costs are much lower here). Two of these mobile LAN's would need to be able to connect to each other with privacy, making use of our static server in Canada to obtain the right addresses and potentially the correct keys. Two questions: How will this be done long term (Is there a standard method for this type think as part of IPSec), and can people think of some hack I could put together to get something like this running fairly quickly (Realizing that FreeSWAN doesn't impliment all of IPSec yet)? Any thoughts appreciated. Part II: Question from potential client: "Is FreeSWAN and dwightd ready to do public key authentication (i.e. use a public key, RSA or DSS, not necessarily do certificate authority stuff). Probably the remote end would be a TimeStep PERMIT box in California." --- Russell McOrmond, Internet Consultant: < http://www.flora.org/russell/work/> Back from India trip - Very behind in Email! http://russell.flora.org/india/Received on Mon Jan 11 17:16:34 1999 This archive was generated by hypermail 2.1.8 : Wed Aug 23 2006 - 12:59:29 EDT |
