For the next time that you revise this, here are some suggestions:

(somewhere in document, should indicate what the HIP protocol number should be at the IP layer, even if it is TBD).

sec 3.1. In the draft it is somewhat ambiguous what is called the "HIP header"-- in some contexts, it appears to be the first 40 bytes only, in others it seems to be this plus the parameters that follow.

sec 3.1. Specify that payload protocol is set to 59 *decimal*

sec 3.1. Suggest a sample HIP packet and checksum, so that checksum computation is unambiguous (perhaps in an appendix).

sec 3.4. I found the TLV length description slightly ambiguous. Suggest changing the last sentence to "Consequently, the Length field indicates the length of the Contents field (in bytes), while the total length of the TLV parameter (including Type, Length, Contents, and Padding) is related to the Length field according to the following formula: ..."

sec 3.5. The "Host ID" encoding needs to be better specified-- we ran into this problem in November.

sec 3.4.3 what happened to Oakley well known groups for Diffie Hellman group IDs?

Do you need help?X

Tom
