I could reproduce similar errors on another system with slightly modified configs. Now the occurrence of the segfault varies depending on the actual contents of the config file.
Unfortunately I have not much experience in C programming and even less in debugging with gdb, but after playing a while with the source code and reading some manuals I could get some more detail. After recompiling with the additional option "-ggdb" and issueing a "ulimit  -c unlimited" a corefile (around 250 kb) was produced, which I will send you, if it may be useful.
The segfault occurs in confread.c, line 435 ff. The loop which loads the non-default conns and produces the debug output "Loading conn ..." seems to be responsible : After one or more complete successful reloads (--auto_reload 5) and then after some completed cycles of this loop it exits with sigsegv.
I'm not sure whether this is enough information to shed some light on the cause of this behavior, but I'll do my best and provide more if you point me to the right direction.

Sebastian
