[Users] connection established but not traffic

I have some strange problems with some VPN's.

I have two linux boxes, one with SuSE + freeswan 1.98b and one with Gibraltar + freeswan 1.99. I work with x509 certificates.

When i start the VPN all seems to be right. The key exchange works, the routes are ok, the firewall is ok too. But when i ping a host on the other side i get no answer.

But now comes the strange thing after about 5-10 minutes all works fine. I can ping in both directions.

Whats is the matter for this behavior?
