I believe hplip gives access to all the features, e.g., ink level, but I haven't tried anything like that. The reason I went into this exercise was to get scanning and that was successful. It is possible that I will get computer control of faxing as well (the main question is how much effort I would be willing to put in considering that I don't fax much at all).
