What I said was that everyone seems to be complaining about this problem, and no one know how to fix it. I can't tell you how many unfinished threads I've found where people would post this problem, but no one would answer.

RTFM on how to 'manually' setup mysql. It's really not that hard.

I've followed the manual setup instructions, and have mysql installed in C:\mysql
running mysqld --console gives me what seems to be normal output similar to that in the manual, but the program freezes on me - it stops responding and the only thing I can do is force quit the command prompt.
