I did originally had a cluster split across 2 networks, each with their own resolver. So if you were on the same network and a lookup for svr2.domain.com (for example) you would get a 192.168 address, if you did it outside the network you would get a proper internet address. I assume the router mapped the external IPs to the internal ones, I have never physically seen the setup. Anyway, this (and possibly 'localhost') is the only reason I can see offhand for name resolving.
I'd love to see a cluster on dynamic IPs though, I can only imagine the headaches :)
