The Strength of NDB clusters is parallelism.

So in a test with only 1 node trying to insert and select as fast as possible a traditinal mysql server will usually beat ndb cluster.

In a test with say 100 clients trying to do the same ndb cluster will outperform a traditional mysql server.

Also, some tables in the database might need to be reengineerd for cluster, but im not a sql whiz, so i cant really comment on that.

You might want to post some additional details about the kinds of test, and the table layout, and the querys you run, if you are looking for more specific information.
