Job Description

A Sales Engineer (SE) in the Telecom Sales Team at MySQL is responsible for providing pre-sales technical support as an integral part of the revenue generation activities in a territory consisting of one or more of: Network Service Providers, Telecom Equipment Manufacturers, Value Added Service Providers, Network Management and Infrastructure Providers and OSS ISVs. Territories vary by country/region.

The SE role reports to the Worldwide Director of Telecom Market Development and Sales Engineering. The compensation structure is 80% base salary and 20% variable. The variable portion is made up of both local bookings and MBO achievements.

Responsibilities:

€ Support achievement of sales monthly, quarterly and annual sales bookings objectives
€ Manage the technical element of selected customer/business partner sales cycles
o Work with the Sales Executive to construct opportunity plans and TCO propositions
o Reduce/eliminate technical obstacles to winning the technical recommendation.
o Ongoing technical qualification of opportunities o Technical and competitive positioning of proposed solution o Provide proof/reference points that proposed solutions are architecturally sound, and operationally manageable for the customer € Provide Technical Account Management to key customers € Help prospects with technical evaluations, including implementation of benchmark programs in C++/Java, setup/optimization of database clusters, authoring of evaluation reports
€ Work on integration with other open source software offerings oriented towards the telecom market
€ Provide regular feedback to MySQL Marketing and Engineering on win/loss information
€ Work with selected MySQL Business Partners (Alliance, Reseller and SI Partners) to ensure their success.
€ Work closely with MySQL Professional Services to reach services revenue goals and ensure customer satisfaction
€ Communicate with and contribute to the worldwide SE community in MySQL € Contribute to User Group Events as required € Provide timely and accurate CRM and management reports as requested € Work with MySQL Marketing to conduct seminars, webinars, assist with trade shows, and other marketing related events in territory. € Travel to customer locations, marketing events, and internal MySQL events as required
€ Exercise prudent expense controls

Qualifications:

€ B.A. / B.S. or equivalent work experience € 5 years track record in software solution pre-sales, with database experience highly preferred
€ Candidate must be located in designated territory € 5 years experience of C++ programming
€ Experience in scalable and highly available systems € MANDATORY - High-tech background including database and infrastructure software experience
€ MANDATORY ­ experience of selling to or working with Telecom Operators, Service Providers, Network Management/ Infrastructure Vendors or Value Added Service Providers in the Telecom vertical € PREFERRED ­ experience in working in one or more of the following areas: Intelligent Networks, Prepaid, Core Network, IMS, including components such as HSS, Value Added Services
€ Good understanding of the telecommunications marketplace, including industry drivers and technology trends
€ Demonstrated history of regular goal achievement in highly competitive environment (top 20% performer) with objectives in excess of 1.5M Euro¹s p.a.
€ Energetic, upbeat, tenacious team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills
€ Outstanding relationship building skills with a high degree of responsiveness and integrity
€ Familiarity with database, application server, web server, and other enterprise markets and technologies
€ Highly mobile, with experience of driving business whilst on the move € Multiple languages and/or multi-country experience is an advantage
