character set of new tables

Hi,

I guess this have been happening for a while, but I thought it was user error. We have all the character set variable set to utf8 on the mysqld nodes.

# mysqladmin var | fgrep char
| character_set_client | utf8 |
| character_set_connection | utf8 |
| character_set_database | utf8 |
| character_set_filesystem | binary |
| character_set_results | utf8 |
| character_set_server | utf8 |
| character_set_system | utf8 |
| character_sets_dir | /usr/share/mysql/charsets/ |

but, for some reason, unless we specify the character set in the create statement, all our NDB tables get created with latin1. Is there some NDB setting we need to set? This is 5.0.38 btw.
