optimizing ndbd tables

So, I just searched the archives and it has been some time since this question was asked. So I will ask it again...

I understand that you can't defragment (essentially) ndbd tables with an OPTIMIZE command. I also understand that currently the only way to do this is a "rolling restart" and the tables get optimized as the node is brought down/up.

Is this still true?

If so, is there any plans to implement online optimization or will it "always" be done this way?

thanks,

keith
