Installing MySQL on Vista
From: Van Sederburg <vps(at)onepost.net>
Date: Fri Sep 14 2007 - 09:21:45 EDT What is the best way to install MySQL on Vista? I'm assuming the expected location is under Program Files, like any other program. But since Vista won't let any program write to the program files directory, it automatically copies the databases to a subdirectory under Users\Bob\AppData\...VirtualStore\Program Files\MySQL\Data\ for example. If another user logs in to the computer, those databases don't exist for him, which makes it a little tough if you want to use the same data regardless of how you log in! This is all solved by installing MySQL directly off the root, i.e., c:\MySQL\, but I'm not sure that's really the "right" way to do things. Any ideas? Recommendations?
