MySQL SSL Support?

From: Van Sederburg <vps(at)onepost.net>

I'm trying to figure out how to use SSL support with MySQL 4.1.22. The help indicates that mysqld-max includes SSL support, but no matter which binary I run (mysqld, mysqld-max, etc.), if I start it with the --ssl option, I get an error that it is not a valid option.

If I so "show variables", it indicates that there is no Open SSL support.

Since the documentation says it should be supported, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Any ideas? Do I have to compile my own binary from source?

Thanks!
