  This is really a SpamAssassin issue, not an amavisd issue per se.

  The reason for all the different .pre files is to facilitate the SA people rolling out new plugins/features without trashing people's existing settings. SA will load all of the things in all of the .pre files up through the current version, in succession.

  Thus if you edit something in the v312.pre or init.pre, and SA 3.20 comes out and requires new preloads, it will have a default v320.pre instead of trashing your init.pre or v312.pre, but it will still load your customizations. Does that make sense?
