OK, I I just brought up a WinXP Pro machine, connected to this Ubuntu 7.04 machine (after supplying the proper username and password), mapped the directory to drive Z, and I do *not* have any "netbios name" in my smp.conf file.

In fact, the *only* references that I have in my smb.conf file are:

  1. <quote> # Using the following line enables you to customise your configuration # on a per machine basis. The %m gets replaced with the netbios name # of the machine that is connecting ; include = /home/samba/etc/smb.conf.%m
  2. <quote> # This will prevent nmbd to search for NetBIOS names through DNS. dns proxy = no

The *only* directions that I used to accomplish this were in the url's provided to you in your previous posts/threads.

Sorry, but I'd have to disagree. However, look at it this way; you learned something, and now you have gained some knowledge that you can pass on to others - just like those that offered advise here, that wrote the user guides, and
http://doc.gwos.org/index.php/Share_files_using_Samba :-)

You see, all of that is written by _users_. If you are looking for professional support please see: http://www.ubuntu.com/support / http://www.ubuntu.com/support/paid
I'm not at all attempting to be smug or offensive here, just pointing out the facts, and that you can purchase professional support. Call MS regarding your Windows XP share mapping question... last I checked they charge somewhere along the likes of $50USD per call.
