127.0.1.1 in /etc/hosts, why?

Hi,

it would be nice if someone could explain me why the /etc/host shows

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 mycomputer.mydomain mycomputer

instead of

127.0.0.1 localhost mycomputer.mydomain mycomputer

Currently I have only problems with this. What is the benefit of this separate IP?
