That's a lot of crashing going on here.

1), Did you include Swap when you installed the system? 2GB might sound like plenty, but it can fill up fast if you multi-task large applications.

2), I think this computer is a prime candidate for hardware diagnostics.

     Start with memtest then badblocks.
