If you're using dhclient to receive an IP address from your ISP you might take a look at /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf. There you can tell dhclient what to request from your provider's DHCP server. For me the relevant part of the file looks like this:

request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers,

        domain-name, domain-name-servers, host-name,
        netbios-name-servers, netbios-scope;

You may want to remove "domain-name-servers" from that.
