Cluster filesystems for Linux?
Francesco M. Taurino writes: Do you know good cluster filesystems for Linux? Is available for Linux a filesystem with cache coherency across all the nodes in a cluster, efficient locking mechanism or with a distributed lock manager, with good scalability features and SAN (fibre channel) compatible?
NewsForge NewsVac Linux routers, part 1: Flex marks the spot http://newsvac.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/07/22/172219 Jan Stafford writes "Linux and open-source routers are the right fit for any network manager whose motto is, "Don't fence me in."" Linux in Munich - Gartner gets retaliation in prematurely? http://newsvac.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/07/22/1733259 In what some less incisive souls are viewing as ammunition for the counter-attack, a recent Gartner 'first take' (the research outfit's free info-gobbets) warns that Munich city council's decision to migrate to Linux should not be seen as proving the case for Linux on the desktop. Which is no more than, as we say over here, the bleedin' obvious, but although the conclusion is sensible enough (in a bleedin' obvious sort of way, that is), the ... MontaVista Software to Support Linux Powered MPC5200 Evaluation Board http://newsvac.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/07/22/1731227 Annette Oevermann writes "SUNNYVALE, Calif., July 22, 2003 --MontaVista Software Inc., the company powering the embedded revolution, today announced that MontaVista(R) Linux(R) Professional Edition 3.0 (Pro) will support Motorola Inc.'s (NYSE: MOT) MPC5200 embedded processor delive ring 760 MIPS. Linux deepening its Canadian foothold
The Linux hype machine has been around long enough to allow Canadian IT managers to kick the proverbial tires -- and they like what they see, according to one industry observer.
Linux users look to attack the desktop
Microsoft is under attack in an area that it has previously called its own the desktop. Admittedly, the threat is a tiny one now, but a group of Linux enthusiasts is set to change all that. Asus Backpedals on 865PE Prescott Statement http://newsvac.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/07/22/1641220 knowfear writes "Recently Asus quietly removed the statement "support for future Prescott CPUs" from their P4P800 specification page. The move fuels speculation first reported on the Anandtech Forums that the 865PE chipset will indeed not support Intel's next generation Prescott CPUs. So much for the ability to upgrade the CPU on my P4P800 Deluxe motherboard!" Who owns Unix? Open Group seeks to clarify http://newsvac.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/07/22/1636200 Jan Stafford writes "Who owns Unix? To read much of the recent news report, you might think that it's SCO Group, the company currently suing IBM Corp. But you'd be wrong."
Saving the Net
Who Owns What? That's the fundamental question, and it's going to get more fundamental as we roll toward the next presidential election here in the US. Much is at stake, including Linux and its natural habitat: the Net. Both have been extraordinarily good for business. Its perceived "threat" to Microsoft and the dot-com crash are both red herrings. Take away Linux and the Net, and both technology and the economy would be a whole lot worse.
How SCO helped Linux go Enterprise
Anonymous Reader writes "SCO may now have filed for UNIX copyrights and made various allegations about code-copying, but the actual complaint against IBM still seems to be focused around allegations UNIX-based enterprise technologies (such as RCU, JFS and SMP) being improperly added to Linux. Yet, reviewing the Linux kernel archives reveals some interesting and surprising background on just who helped put these technologies into Linux.
