http://newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/08/08/1246245

  • by Joe Barr - The SCO Group picked a bad week to try to give up their addiction to news conferences, especially those regarding their lawsuit against IBM. Red Hat filed a lawsuit against The SCO Group on Monday and IBM did the same on Wednesday. Both filings appeared to catch SCO by surprise.

Open Source by Osmosis
http://newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/08/07/2259214

  • by Matt Asay - Much has been said and written about open source software in the past few years. So much, indeed, that one would think we would be super-saturated with it, and ready to move on to the 'next big thing.' But we have not, and do not appear to be even remotely close to the limit of open source's potential. It apparently cannot be over-hyped.

Ruby is a scripting language which is rapidly     growing in popularity around the world and already has a very strong     userbase in Japan. It's a bit like Python, but nicer. :-) At any rate,     RubyForge has already proved to be a hit with open source developers,     with 35 projects and over 100 developers ...

One way or another, rights to the core coding behind the Linux     operating system (OS) ultimately will be decided by several federal     court lawsuits stemming from SCO Group's claims on the popular "open     source," or freely distributed software. But the longer term battle for     Linux, an offshoot of the Unix OS that Lindon-based SCO claims to own     outright, could be decided by Congress, if authors of the fledgling     Open Source and Industry Alliance have ...
