  • by Jeff Childers - Corporate IT budgets have become paralyzed by their resistance to monolithic, all-or-nothing upgrades accompanied by painful services interruptions and unexpected cost overruns. Their obstinacy has been learned by hard experience, and is caused by the near ubiquitous use of Microsoft software in business.

Windows dressing isn't the Apple way
http://newsvac.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/09/21/1435228

Of all the global companies making PCs today, just two make money. Few     would be surprised that one of these is Dell, the Texas-based     manufacturer that pioneered the idea of selling direct to its     customers. But who would guess that the other is Apple Computer?     Globally, it accounts for fewer than 5 per cent of computer sales, and     in some markets its share is even lower.

Analysis of Symantec's Stance on Censorship http://newsvac.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/09/21/1412259

Anonymous Reader writes "According to this report in the Sydney Morning     Herald, Chief Operating Officer of Symantec, John Schwarz, was quoted     as "calling for laws to make it a criminal offense to share information     and tools online which could be used by malicious hackers and virus     writers". If this is the official stance from Symantec, then I must say     they can consider me an strong advocate of their competitors and a     boycotter of their product ...

http://newsvac.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/09/20/166251

Analyst reports on the so-called expense of using Linux are a dime a     dozen these days, with one analyst group praising Windows and another     anointing Linux with the same praises. It is hard to know who is right     and who is wrong. It becomes even more frustrating when it is revealed     that some reports are sponsored by Microsoft and other proprietary     software companies, for the seemingly express purpose of detracting     Linux and open source software.
