popular anime Cowboy Bebop has finally been set to release in the states in a handful of cities including LA, NY, SF, Seattle and others on April 4. It features all the same voice actors as the Cartoon Network series and is big news for all those Bebop fans out there. As a note the Japanese title of the film was 'Cowboy Bebop: Knockin On Heaven's Door', but has been changed simply to 'Cowboy Bebop: The Movie' for the states." Net Speed Record Smashed
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/06/2211227

[0]BrianWCarver writes "The BBC [1]is reporting that scientists have
set a new internet speed record by transferring 6.7 gigabytes of data (the equivalent of 4 hours of DVD-quality movies) across 10,978 kilometres (6,800 miles), from Sunnyvale in the US to Amsterdam in Holland, in less than one minute. Average speed: more than 923 megabits per second, or more than 3,500 times faster than a typical home broadband connection. The data was sent across the Internet2 network.
[2]Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (Slac) Computer Services
participated in the record-breaking event. Slac has an interest in such high-speed transfers as they have accumulated the largest known database in the world, which grows at one terabyte per day." Links

Jupiter's "Mini-Me" Solar System Grows
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/06/2120235

An anonymous reader writes "University of Hawaii's robotic telescopes have [0]discovered 8 new moons for Jupiter, thus bringing its mini solar system to 48 total. No one knows how Jupiter dissipates the energy of these likely asteroid captures, unless it once had a massively larger atmosphere. Indeed, its [1]ion cloud today seems to spell doom for what Sir Arthur C. Clarke indicated, is another reason to avoid probing life on Europa. ('All these worlds are yours--except Europa. Bad Behavior on the 'Net - Who Pays the Bandwidth Bill? http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/06/204235

Do you need more help?X

rakolam asks: "I am involved with network management in the hosting department of a fairly large ISP. Constantly we have customers who dispute inbound bandwidth spikes and demand service credits on their burstable connections. Events such as the Slammer Virus literally have everyone knocking on their salesperson's door at the end of the billing cycle. My position is that the internet is a public space, and by placing themselves in that space, one has to realize the consequences (and the implications of burstable billing). I'd like Slashdot's perspective on this. Should ISP's ultimately eat the costs of malicious behavior? Is the customer ultimately responsible for the bandwidth they've generated, regardless if it's desired or not? Is this a new frontier for insurance companies?"

Cornell Implementing Bandwidth Charges
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/03/06/1610252

Sabalon writes "[0]Cornell University is planning on implementing a plan where if faculty, staff or students use more than 2GB of bandwidth a month, they will be [1]charged for the additional bandwidth usage. The article mentions that last year over 100,000GB worth of files were sent from Cornell's network. I'm sure this is not the only school doing this or moving to this. I'm sure the conspiracy theory people will see this as a suggestion by Microsoft to stop students from getting those pesky Linux iso images. At least, according to the RIAA, CD sales around Cornell should now skyrocket :)" It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Since students often have accounts on several different university machines, I suspect the more rebellious ones will be running an assortment of proxies and redirections to get around the restrictions.

Alternative Licensing for Music

glrParser 1.2
http://freshmeat.net/releases/115379/

The glrParser template library is a programmer's tool for creation of syntactical analysers which works with the GLR(0) algorithm. The library can handle wide ambiguous grammars containing the epsilon-rules. GLR is generalization of the LR algorithm (published by Marasu Tomita) which can handle ambiguous grammars. The library implements the GLR(0) algorithm but defines neither the method of reading input nor the actions to make when making reductions. The format of the grammar files is defined but it is easy to make the parser to handle different ones without modifiyng the library itself.

Java Serialization to XML 2 0.4.0
http://freshmeat.net/releases/115351/

Java Serialization to XML 2 allows you to convert Java objects into streams of XML and back again. JSX subclasses Java's serialization classes, so it can be used in their place with the same simple power. This allows you to check and correct your distributed, persisted, and logged object data, and process it with XSLT, SAX, and DOM. JSX handles all objects, complex object graphs, new classes, old classes, and evolving classes. JSX even handles classes that do not implement the "Serializable" interface.
