Tax Tips For Small Folks?
An anonymous "The tax deadline is fast approaching (here in the USofA). Like some of you, I have a small business on the side. Since I haven't figured out the 'step 2' yet (the one before 'step 3: profit!!!'), my revenues were zero for all of last year, and the expenses were just about zero too. What is the quickest and least painful way for a person in my situation to do his taxes? I don't want to spend 100s of dollars going to a paid professional, just to have him put all zeroes in the form. If you have done your taxes and are a small business (C-corp, don't ask why...), do you have any tips?" This is also your chance to offer all the heretofore unsolicited tax advice you've been bottling up all year.
Stash Your Hard Drive In The Attic
RegardsSJ writes "Robert X. Cringley on [0]his PBS website mentions a
$479 wireless, fanless 120gb network storage/file server appliance
(running linux) in his column. He thinks the killer app for this one is
for keeping your porn storage hidden, if you're busted by the cops. I
think his concept is weak, given the wireless signal is traceable
(security through obscurity?), WEP is breakable, and the fact that you
have to have the thing plugged in somewhere... The company selling the
device is [1]martian.com. Anybody use one?" Now that it's possible to
stream audio and video through various boxes originally serving other
purposes (like TiVo and PlayStation2), this looks like a good companion
piece, too.

Conrad Burns (R-Montana) and Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) Yahoo supports it, but DMA and AOL want to polish it a bit more. Version 0.9 beta would require States Attorney Generals to sue spammers on consumers behalf. (So long as I get some moola from these jerks, I'd be happy with that) My wishes are: craft a strong enough bill to stand 1st Amendment challenges and punish violators in the pocketbook enough and a few prosecutions will bring most of the domestic junk to a screeching halt. I tend to daydream about winning the lottery, too. Contact your Senators and Representative with your wishes, maybe this time something will get a move on." HP Calcs Live On Under PalmOS
philipsblows writes "Emulators for HP Calcs have been around for a while, but HP is actually getting behind this one, allowing ROM images to be included to support emulation of 48sx, 48gx and 49g (all separately and at the same time) on your PalmOS device. Unfortunately, it has to be a color device, but this is great news anyone who would otherwise miss out on using an HP calc. [0]Check out Power48 here." And unlike a calculator, the software is free (and Free). Links 0. http://power48.mobilevoodoo.com/ 802.11n: High Throughput, Not Just Fast Wireless http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/04/12/172214

Much OFX information is lost since the QIF file format is very primitive, but ofx2qif should allow importation of bank statements in any software that support QIF until said software supports the library directly. Smarty takes a step further to be a "smart" template engine, adding features such as configuration files, template functions, and variable modifiers, and making all of this functionality as easy as possible to use for both programmers and template designers. Smarty also converts the templates into PHP scripts, eliminating the need to parse the templates on every invocation. This makes Smarty extremely scalable and managable for large application needs.
squidefender 1.1
Squidefender is a Perl script which analyzes a squid log file in native format to detect attacks. If it finds an attack, it sends a complaint email to the ISP of the attacker. It also has the option to execute an external command to take other actions. This can be used to automatically adapt your firewall when an attack has occured. The power of squidefender lies in its configuration options, which let you easily add new attacks to scan for. Another interesting option of squidefender is its ability to use different message templates based on the attack found.
