The Netatalk development team is proud to announce version 1.6.1 of the Netatalk File Sharing suite. The 1.6.1 release includes bug fixes, including fixes to the software build process. Netatalk is a collection of server programs and utilities for handling various protocols employed by Apple Macintosh computers on Unix compatible systems. This allows Unix hosts to act as file, print, and time servers for Apple Macintosh (classic MacOS as well as MacOS X) computers. Netatalk 1.6.1 is a maintenance release for the 1.6 series that fixes

system. We hope to solve these in the next release.

GStreamer 0.6.0 released

The GStreamer team is happy to announce our first ABI stable release series, the 0.6.x series of the GStreamer streaming-media framework. The 0.6.0 release includes numerous bug fixes and feature enhancements. At this point in time, GStreamer is fully functional for creating audio-based applications, as shown by applications such as gnome-sound-recorder, Rhythmbox and nautilus-media. Video-based applications still have some issues at this point, especially in the area of audio/video sync and seeking, but we plan on solving those issues during the 0.6.x series. GStreamer is a streaming-media framework, based on graphs of filters which operate on media data. Applications using this library can do anything from real-time sound processing to playing videos, and just about anything else media-related.

IRM 1.4.0 released

IRM 1.4.0 has just been released. This is the first STABLE version of IRM released in a little under 2 years. There are many new features, as well as streamlining and tweaking of existing functionality. IRM is a Web-based asset and problem tracking system built for IT departments and helpdesks. It keeps detailed information, both hardware and software, about each computer, as well as a complete history of all work requests ever placed.

Two applications built using TclXML are now available. tkxmllint is a GUI equivalent of libxml2's xmllint command-line tool. tkxsltproc is a GUI equivalent of libxslt's xsltproc. The TclXML family of packages provide XML support for the Tcl scripting language. There are several subprojects: TclXML (the parser), TclDOM, TclXSLT and xmlgen.

gtkpod is a platform independent GUI for Apple's iPod using GTK2. It supports playlists, ID3 tag editing, multiple charsets for ID3 tags, detects duplicate songs, allows offline modification of the database with later synchronization, and more. This new release V0.42 is is a minor upgrade to V0.41. The main new feature is a more responsive user interface: you can interrupt the display update at any time, as well as select and deselect playlists and tab entries at any time. Updating in the foreground takes quite some time, though, therefore you have a new option to switch back to the old behaviour of just blocking the display until the update is done. Other than that quite a number of bugs have been fixed and new ones have been introduced for you to find.

Computer Made Fom DNA And Enzymes

According to the National Geographic story, this DNA-based computer "can perform 330 trillion operations per second, more than 100,000 times the speed of the fastest PC."
