Search for the Missing Universe
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/05/04/2245236

[0]Chris Gondek writes "The [1]Sydney Morning Herald has reported that
[2]one of the greatest discoveries of our time could be made under the
Yorkshire moors. Deep in a Yorkshire mine, scientists are toiling to     solve a cosmic puzzle that has baffled astronomers for 70 years: about     90 per cent of the universe is missing. Analyse the movements of stars     and you can work out how much matter is making them swirl round in     galactic islands and how much makes galaxies cluster together as they     do - in other words, you can work out how much mass makes the universe     look the way it does. But measurements suggest that the universe is not     what it appears."

Nmap Security Tool Survey

[0]spring writes "Every so often, the author of everyone's favorite
network reconnaissance tool, [1]nmap, runs a survey to determine which     security-oriented software products are most popular. This year's
[2]tool survey was just released, and it contains some interesting
results. Old favorites like [3]Nessus, [4]Snort, [5]Netcat, and
[6]Ethereal made the list, of course. [7]SAINT and [8]SARA are still
around. But a number of new tools appeared this year, like Windows-only
[9]GFI LANguard, [10]SuperScan, and [11]Cain & Abel. [12]Nikto and

[0]Holger Blasum writes "The directive on software patents in Europe is
(currently) scheduled in the European Parliament mid June, so the 7-8     May parliament hearing on [1] Software Patents: from legal wordings to     economic reality might be a good opportunity to make your views heard     in Brussels. What Games Have Actually Affected You?
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/04/30/221203

[0]FortKnox asks: "What games have affected you simply by playing them?
What games immersed you so well into its environment that you actually     felt different after playing it? For me, I'd have to go with System     Shock 2. Basically the predecessor to Deus Ex, it was the only game     that made me so afraid that the minute I heard a matron mother, I     turned the other way and ran. What game scared you to death, or made     you think after playing it?"
