Can we help you?X

The Linux Test Project test suite ltp-full-20030508.tgz has been     released. The latest version of the testsuite contains 1800+ tests for     the Linux OS. Our web site also contains other information such as:     test results, a Linux test tools matrix, an area for keeping up with     fixes for known blocking problems in the 2.5 kernel releases, technical     papers and HowTos on Linux testing, and a code coverage analysis tool.     Lists of test cases that are expected to fail for specific     architectures and kernels are located at:     http://ltp.sourceforge.net/expected-errors.php These lists also contain     expected LTP compiler warnings for each architecture and kernel.     Highlights: * An updated and revised HowTo is now posted on the     website. * Updates to allow build and execution in NPTL environments. *     Open POSIX Test Suite 0.9.0 merged into test suite. * New 'ltpmenu'     ncurses-type GUI available. * New tests added for device mapper,     sockets, and 2.5 timers. We encourage the community to post results,     patches, or new tests on our mailing list, and to use the CVS bug     tracking facility to report problems that you might encounter. More     details available at our web-site.

Tcllib 1.4.0 released
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=275116

tcllib is a Tcl-only library of standard routines for Tcl (no compiling     required). This release is a minor version change which fixes numerous     bugs and provides a lot of enhancements as well. Tcllib 1.4 release

notes ======================== Hello World, welcome to Tcllib 1.4. This
release is a minor version change which fixes numerous bugs and     provides a lot of enhancements as well. Availability ------------ The     released distributions can be downloaded from     http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=12883&release_id=     157517 Available are gzipped, zipped, and bzipped tarballs, a starkit,     and a starpack for windows. Installation ------------ * For the starkit     and starpack just execute the file and a GUI based installer will pop     up. Fill out the paths, then run the installation. * For the tarballs     unpack them in some directory /foo, then run the file     "/foo/installer.tcl". This will invoke the same installer used in the     starkit and starpack. Note: While the installer will open up a GUI by     default (and if possible), a command line based installation is     provided too. Run the installer with the option "-help" to see what is     available. Known problems -------------- * When using Tcllib 1.4 on a     true 64bit platform, like Linux/Alpha, or Linux/IA-64 the usage of Tcl     8.4.x is strongly recommended. * Package mime, SourceForge Tcllib Bug     #447037 A special case of the above. This problem affects only people     which are using Tcl and Mime on a true 64-bit system. The currently     recommended fix for this problem is to upgrade to Tcl version 8.4. This     version has extended 64 bit support and the bug does not appear     anymore. The problem could have been generally solved by requiring the     use of Tcl 8.4 for this package. We decided against this solution as it     would force a large number of unaffected users to upgrade their Tcl     interpreter for no reason. See
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=447037&group_id=12883&a     tid=112883 for additional information. Acknowledgments ---------------     Many thanks to Arjen Markus Brent Welch Brett Schwarz Dan Kuchler David     N. Welton Don Porter Donal K. For 1.4 This has been changed completely. Beyond the placement of all doctools functionality into packages it was also greatly expanded. A new application based on this expanded functionality, the doctools processor, "dtp" is also available, as part of the 'tclapps' module in the 'tcllib' project at SourceForge. The Spirit Of Unix vs. The Unix Trademark http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/05/13/0324226

[0]BSD Forums writes "This article conveys the message that [1]Linux,     BSD, and Darwin continue what Unix started. InfoWorld's Tom Yager says     that several readers took him to task for referring to Linux, BSD, and     OS X as Unix. He feels that Unix has a rich legacy that deserves to be     preserved and accurately conveyed to new generations of computer     scientists. It rattles many of us to see that the operating systems     that best exemplify Unix traditions today aren't Unix at all." Links

RIAA Apologizes for Incorrect Infringement Notice http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/05/13/031200

theradixhunter writes "News.com is [0]reporting that the RIAA has     apologized to the [1]Pennsylvania State University for sending a     threatening letter making an incorrect allegations of copyright     violations. It appears that the automated system that the RIAA uses     picked the term "Usher" and the extenstion ".mp3" on an FTP site     hosting the work of Professor Emeritus Peter Usher and falsely assumed     that the files were songs by the musician [2]Usher. The university     accepted the apology saying "that this was an honest mistake by the     recording industry" and Spokesman Tysen Kendig said Penn State "remains     committed to working closely with the RIAA"." Linux Powers First Handheld Software Radio http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/05/12/203225

An anonymous reader writes "According to [0]this article at     LinuxDevices.com, [1]Vanu Technology is demonstrating what it claims     represents the world's first handheld 'software radio' using an iPAQ     PDA running Linux at a [2]conference in Washington DC today. Vanu     apparently has implemented the signal processing functions on the     iPAQ's XScale processor, and their software uses POSIX APIs to make it     platform independent. Software radios implement multiple radio     standards and frequency bands in software, rather than hardware. A     standard iPAQ expansion pack houses the radio transceiver." Links

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro vs. NVidia GeForce 5900 http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/05/13/012221

[0]HardcoreGamer writes "Today [1]ATI shipped its Radeon 9800 Pro 256     MB DDR-2 card in time for E3 and [2]nVidia announced the NV35-based     GeForce 5900 which will be available in June. Early tests seem to say     that while [3]nVidia edges ahead of ATI in [4]specific areas, overall     [5]ATI still has the better card. The caveat is that the next     generation of DirectX 9-based games (like Doom 3 and Half-Life 2,     [6]demonstrated with ATI at E3) will truly determine which is the     better card. Lots of coverage at [3]PC Magazine, [4]PC World, The     Register ([7]ATI) ([8]nVidia), [5]ExtremeTech, [9]InternetNews, and     [10]Forbes/Reuters. Either way, at $450-$500, serious gamers are about     to get another serious dent in their wallets." Links

Intel Reveals Itanium 2 Glitch
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/05/12/221251

NeoChichiri writes "News.com is running on an article about [0]glitches     in Intel's Itanium 2 chips. Even though it doesn't affect all chips,     they have still stopped shipments of the new 450 Servers until the     problem is resolved. Apparently it has to be 'a specific set of     operations in a specific sequence with specific data.' Intel is saying     that affects the 900MHz and 1 GHz Itanium 2 chips and that it will not     affect the upcoming 1.5 GHz Itanium 2 6M chips." Until the next     iteration of chip arrives though, Oliver Wendell Jones writes, "they     recommend working around the problem by underclocking the processor to     run at 800 MHz instead of its default 900 MHz or 1 GHz."
