TclXML v3.0rc1
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=302894

Release candidate 1 of version 3.0 of the TclXML package is now     available. This release candidate introduces a binding for libxml2 to     the TclXML package. This allows an application to use the libxml2     parser class to parse an XML document, setting callbacks in the usual     fashion. No significant changes have been made to the pure-Tcl or expat     parser classes. It is planned to perform some bug fixes to the pure-Tcl     parser class for release candidate 2.

Turck MMCache for PHP version 2.3.23 is released http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=303184

Can we help you?X

This is should be the last version prior to the stable 2.4.0 release.     Please test this release as much as possible. Turck MMCache is a PHP     Accelerator, Optimizer, Encoder and Dynamic Content Cache. It increases     performance of PHP scripts by caching them in compiled state, so that     the overhead of compiling is almost completely eliminated. Also it uses     some optimizations for speed up of PHP scripts execution. Turck MMCache     typically reduces server load and increases the speed of your PHP code     by 1-10 times. It has been tested with PHP 4.1.0 - 4.3.2 under Linux     and Windows with Apache 1.3 and 2.0. HTTP caching of mmcache.php was     disabled. Usage of POSIX semaphors on Mac OS X was disabled. Handling     of scripts with PHP syntax errors was fixed. ZE2 support was improved     (tested with php5-200308140730).

RobotRunAmok writes "Plutinos, Centaurs, Cubewanos - the names Detroit     has given some of their next gen SUVs? Nope. They are among the many     colorful, and, some complain, confusing names which astronomers have     given to celestial objects in the last decade. Ever wonder about the     system of organization which astronomers use to name new space rocks?     Apparently, so have many astronomers, because, according a     Yahoo!/Space.com article, it's [0]neither very systematic nor     organized. Fear not: some clever star-minded chaps from Oxford and     Cambridge have a plan to wring some order from the damp dishrag of     astro-nomenclature chaos."

Matrix Revolutions Trailer Released
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/08/21/016251

[0]aerojad writes "The new Matrix Revolutions trailer is now
[1]available for download [2](direct link) on the official site. If you
have plugin/bandwidth issues, there are also [3]BitTorrent links     available. For those wondering, there is more to it than you saw at the     end of Reloaded." In related news, an anonymous reader points to the     BBC News report that: "The makers of the Matrix films are
[4]considering only promoting the third film, Matrix Revolutions, for
next year's Oscars. Warners, which produced the films, had considered     pushing for both of them to be nominated as a single entry because they     were shot on the same 240-day shoot, but the academy refused." Links

SCO: Code Proof Analyzed, Linus Interviewed http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/08/20/2350225

Arker writes "Bruce Perens has now obtained a copy of the entire slide     show from which the recently scrutinized [0]SCO-related Linux code     excerpts came, and has [1]analyzed the remainder of the 'evidence' they     presented there. Their other code exhibit turns out to have been the     venerable Berkeley Packet Filter(!), and their revised line-counts are     consistent with simply adding together all the lines of code that have     been contributed by Unix licensees." Also, Iphtashu Fitz writes "A [2]     new interview with Linus Torvalds has been posted on eWeek.com. In it     he slams SCO over the recently leaked source code. Among other things,     he points out in the interview that some of the code in question has     been removed from the 2.6 kernel ['because developers complained about     how "ugly" it was'] before SCO even started complaining." Ocean Sponge May Be Best for Fiber Optics http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/08/20/234249

Japan's Proposed 30-Year Robot Program
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/08/20/2051215

[0]Gallamine writes "A group of Japanese [1]researchers have proposed a
Government plan to spend 50 billion yen per year (that's over 400     million $US) for 30 years on developing a robot with capabilities of a     5-year-old. Japan's current economy may prevent the plan from     happening, but the interesting point is the parallels to the U.S.     Apollo space program, America's attempt to put a man on the moon. While     expensive, the benefits to the American population from that program     are probably unmeasurable. Perhaps the U.S. Government should consider     funding such a program over here?"

Divx Now Adware Supported Only
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/08/20/1940202

[0]bogomip_bandit writes "The divx codec is no longer free, no strings
attached. Until recently, when downloading the codec from divx.com, one     could select Dr Divx for a price, Divx Pro for a price, the divx codec     for free, or the divx codec with bundled adware to help support divx     development etc. Recently the site has changed. Now when one visits the
[1]download page, the only free codec you can download is adware
supported. This means even to just watch divx movies and not do any     actual enncoding, one has to install adware on their machine. I for one     will be finding a different video codec." Sounds like a good reason (if     you needed one) to look curiously at [2]Ogg Theora. Update: 08/20 20:04     GMT by [3]T: Correction: As several readers have pointed out, the bare     codec is still available, it's just listed below the payware / adware     versions.

Microsoft Tracking Behavior of Newsgroup Posters http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/08/20/1254232

[0]theodp writes "Ever get the feeling your Usenet newsgroup list is
being watched? By Microsoft? If so, consider yourself right. An
[1]interesting but troubling CNET interview with Microsoft's in-house
sociologist goes into how the software giant is keeping a close eye on     newsgroups and other public e-mail lists, tracking and rating     contributors' social habits and determining "people who the system has     shown to have value." Those concerned that it's not a good idea for     computers to track their belongings and whereabouts are advised that     they may ultimately have to fragment their identities, keeping multiple     IDs and e-mail addresses."
