Slashdot
andy1307 writes "[0]The Washington Post is [1]reporting that wireless companies are opposing mobile number portability. According to the law as it is being written, customers would be able to transfer wired phone numbers to a wireless service. Not surprisingly, Verizon is the wireless company opposing the law." WLANs As Spam Conduit
[0]Saint Aardvark writes "According to [1]this article, a honeypot was
recently set up on two wireless LANs. 25% of the connections observed
were deliberate, and 71% of those were to send spam. Even more reason
to take care of your ether." These statistics should be taken with a
salt lick...

Ben Edelman decided to ask court's permission to reverse-engineer the Internet filtering software made by [1]N2H2 in fears of being sued by the company. Of interest is a quote from the ruling: "there is no plausibly protected constitutional interest that Edelman can assert that outweighs N2H2's right to protect its copyrighted material from an invasive and destructive trespass." At some point (if not on a daily basis) a consultant is asked to do something that isn’t in the best interest of the company (and therefore may not be in the best interest of the consultant in the long run). The consultant must ask 'do I just say "yes sir" and go to work, or do I try to explain things? If so, how hard do I push?' When should a good consultant question a decision, and how does the situation differ with contract programmers?"
Implementing VisiCalc
David Leppik writes "The author of VisiCalc, the first spreadsheet program, has [0] an article about how it was designed. VisiCalc is why businesses started to take the Apple ][ (and personal computers in general) seriously. It also changed accounting forecasts forever, which triggered the investment boom that brought us the "greed is good" era. Oh, and you can still [1] download VisiCalc in case you run DOS or Windows and have 27,520 bytes to spare." Links 0. http://www.frankston.com/?name=ImplementingVisiCalc
