How Broad is Broadband?

lost, in a ruling that their advertisement of their 128k broadband
service as 'High Speed Broadband Internet' is misleading. This is
despite it clearly meeting the technical definitions of broadband
internet. Apparently 128k broadband is not broad enough." My first
cable modem was only 256k. It wasn't blazingly fast but after being
stuck on dialup it was heaven, and I imagine 128k wouldn't be so bad
for a single household.

Having been seen by over 2 million people worldwide, this free web
project will be launching the penultimate episode in the series next
week, and will close out its run with a 1 hour finale in June. 'Broken
Saints' follows the paths of four protagonists from different cultures
that receive an ominous vision of the future - a vision that is somehow
tied to the launching of a global telecommunications network. One of
the main characters - the Muslim mercenary Oran - was created as a
direct protest of the continued sanctions against the nation of Iraq.
His role in the story chillingly mirrors the direction of current
global events. The 3-person team from North Vancouver, Canada hopes to
release a tradition graphic novel and DVD box set of the series by
Christmas 2003. They are also in talks with production companies
ranging from HBO to the Sci-Fi Network to do a mini-series adaptation
of the epic. If you want to help the lads chip away at their mounting

Shopping for a New Monitor?

good displays. The problem is that quality can vary drastically from
unit to unit. Just because the reviewer got a good screen doesn't mean
you will. A lot of people say that it's a bad idea to buy a display
device sight-unseen and from experience I have to agree. There are the
big chain stores that will have monitors on display, but they will
typically only have the 'value' models. So, what is your monitor buying
process? What do you do to make sure you get the sort of high-quality
display that'll last you through the next couple hardware upgrades?"

consumer hardware gadgets. A few months ago it was the [1]Streamium

betas seem like a great way to do a bit of marketing and user testing
at the same time maybe more companies will pick up the same idea." This
seems like a great idea for a company wanting to collect usability data
on their interfaces, so that the release version can be tweaked.

support was added to FreeBSD 5-CURRENT. This allows memory above 4GB to
be used normally by the kernel and userland on the x86 platform. Jake
Burkholder, the man behind PAE, is now looking for users to help him
test this new feature. In his [1]message to the freebsd-current mailing
list, Jake describes the current caveats to PAE and also says 'We'd
like this feature to be solid for 5.1-RELEASE, so I'm hoping there are
people out there with systems with more than 4G of ram that are willing
to test it.' This, along with other [2]features make FreeBSD 5-STABLE
look very promising."

Webcams to Enforce Singapore Quarantine
