Mechanical Butterflies?

MImeKillEr writes "According to an [0]article on BBC News, two researchers from Oxford took highspeed photographs of an Admiral butterfly in a specially-designed windtunnel to study how butterflies fly. The resulting research brings insight into small-scale flight dynamics. Although the article doesn't give an ETA on this, they expect to be able to build an aircraft with a 10cm wingspan that will be either autonomous or radio controlled. This will allow them to be used in rescue missions, cave exploration and possibly even on Mars." Links

Google's new toys

Google labs just released for your pleasure, some new toys to play
with. The first is [0]Google's Viewer, just type few words and see a
fully working preview of the web site. Another new idea: [1]Google's
Webquotes, View search results with quotes about them from other sites,
and the last one is [2]Google's Froogle, which aims to be the world's
largest catalog.

by a site called [1]ebayupdates.com. The site attempts to steal credit
card details from eBay's 55 million customers. The [2]SANS Institute
Internet Storm Center issued the warning on this one. Info about the
scam can be found on the [3]BBC site, [4]CNN, [5]CNet, [6]vnunet, and
[7]more. Funny enough there's no mention of this on the eBay site..."

Package' for their Cobalt RaQ 4 Linux servers allows remote users to
execute arbitrary code. Ironically, the solution is to remove the
package, potentially removing protection from other compromises.
There's a [1]CERT advisory, as well as [2]an article posted on
[3]Extremetech." Yikes, one would hope there's a forthcoming patch in
the works.

Tivo 2 Features On the Horizon

pictures for the Tivo 2. Users will be able to play MP3s and view
photos that come from their computer. It will also be possible to
program the Tivo via a web site. An official announcement is due in
January. There will be revenue associated with these items. Only the
remote programming sounds interesting to me, but I'm glad for anything
that would keep Tivo afloat."

Given competing games like [3]Neverwinter Nights, which have a
phenomenal amount of user-created add-ons, this is a very smart move

found an interesting story, [2] Microsoft Planning to Share Code with
India." He excerpts from that article: "Microsoft has already made a
proposal to the ministry of information technology (of India) for
sharing the Windows source code with one government body. The nature of
the body has not been spelt out; it will presumably be worked out after
discussions between the company and the government officials.
Interestingly, the offer comes at a time when state governments are
showing interest in rival Linux operating system as the latter's source
code is free and downloadable from the internet."
