First HDTV Camcorder
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/04/25/0346228

[0]zymano writes "[1]The JVC GR-HD1 will be introduced in May, it's the
world's first consumer camcorder to offer 750 line resolution     progressive video at 30 frames per second, recording MPEG2 video to     MiniDV tape. The price will start around $2500-$3500 . Some [2]more     info here with pictures. Also check out the [3]pro version. With     digital cameras at regular stores with resolution over 5 megapixel it     makes you wonder why it took so long to produce." Links

The First Steps Towards Asimov's Psychohistory? http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/04/25/0042223

[0]lawrencekhoo writes "[1]The Chronicle of Higher Education has an
interesting article about the Gottman Institute's (a.k.a. the love lab)     work on [2]modeling the dynamics of marital conversations. These models     are described in John Gottman et. al.'s recent book [3] The Mathematics     of Marriage: Dynamic Nonlinear Models (MIT Press). Should be an     interesting read for anyone who ever wondered if human interactions     could be mathematically modeled."

[0]melorama writes "The [1]NAB convention passed 2 weeks ago, and I'm
surprised nobody has pointed out the really neat [2]Solid State Video     Camcorder that was unveiled by Panasonic. It seems a bit kludgy right     now (it records onto a series of PCMCIA cards), but it definitely beats     the klunky [3]Avid/Ikegami Camcutter (aka Editcam) from several years     back, which records onto a self-contained harddisk. This is certainly a     blow to Sony, which is working on a camera acquisition system that uses     a [4]blue-laser optical disc (read: moving parts) technology." Links

Online Marketers to Stamp out Spam?
http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/04/24/1954249

CodeHog writes "A group of online marketers want to get rid of spam and     are proposing a registry base system for transmitting email. They are     calling the project [0]Lumos. [1]Computer World has an aritcle on it
[2]Online marketers offer new antispam initiative . Doesn't it seem
like these are the same businesses that profit from spam? Even better,     this is being proposed by [3]ESPC. The member list doesn't look too     anti-spam to me." The obvious issue of course is that most spammers     won't follow the rules anyway. My spam is up 20% over the 1st quarter     of 2003! Yay!

Bombing the Moon for Water

s20451 writes "In 1998, [0]NASA scientists deliberately crashed the
[1]Lunar Prospector into the Moon, in a [2]failed attempt to detect
traces of water allegedly hiding in deep craters at the lunar south     pole. Now the BBC is reporting a new proposal to [3]attack the lunar     poles with "Bunker Buster" missiles to liberate a detectable amount of     water. Called [4]Polar Night, the mission is being proposed as part of     the "Discovery" series of probes."

The world beyond Windows
http://linux.com/article.pl?sid=03/04/25/1526201

Whether or not Microsofts new Windows Server 2003 software has .Net in     its name, it is clear the companys real commitment is to its Windows     operating system. Obviously, it makes business sense for Microsoft to     want to continue generating demand for its flagship products,     especially now that action in the industry is moving away from the     desktop, where Microsoft rules, toward the Web where competition is     king.
