Novell Not Dumping Netware
jerel writes "[0]eWeek describes how [1]Novell will still develop and support NetWare. The eWeek article quotes Bruce Lowry, a top spokesman for Novell as saying, 'The bottom line is no. The whole thing with Linux is an additive thing. We're not dumping NetWare, we're adding Linux.' NetWare 7.0 will allow users to either upgrade to the latest version of the NetWare kernel or move to Linux." I guess this answers any [2]lingering doubts going around. Links

0. http://www.informationweek.com/ Disclosure of Major Software Exploits by Students? http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/08/07/2243214 school-hacker asks: "I am a U.S. university student who has recently come across 2 remote exploits for a homework program used by colleges nationwide. Both vulnerabilities allow students to give themselves arbitrary scores, and possibly execute arbitrary code. To further emphasize the scope of this vulnerability, I have written and -selftested proof-of-concept exploit code. Naturally, I want to share this information with their software engineers, and would even be nice enough and suggest a means to fixing it. However, with the state of current intellectual property and reverse-engineering laws, I hesitate to do so out of fear of litigation or academic disciplinary action. As an ethical geek, what do -you- do?" While [0]the responses from an earlier story might prove useful, here, there is always the possibility of the university making things harder for the person reporting the problem. How can students avoid both legal and academic trouble, when trying to notify their university of security problems? Links 0. http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=00/06/14/0338219&tid=99

Real Money Inside in MMORPGs?
Cranial writes "Sony Interactive [0]expressly forbids the selling of Everqest or Everquest II ingame items or characters for money, but why? Imagine Massively Multiplayer Games where you can actually cash out your loot in the real world. What if that jewel in the dragon hoard was actually a digital title for the Hope Diamond or a [1]real ancient artifact? This article on Programmers Heaven [2]proposes a new economic model for MM games allowing free exchange of game money and items in the real world. Essentially it is a hybridization between online gaming (casino) and MM roleplaying games. Fascinating concept." Links
