Rolo Tomasi writes "ESA's reusable launch vehicle demonstrator, Phoenix, was recently [0]wind tunnel tested to determine its low speed aerodynamics. A free flight for Phoenix is planned for early summer 2004. In case you haven't heard of it yet, here's an [1]article from last year, describing the Phoenix/HOPPER concept. Here's [2]another page at ESA, but it seems to be available only in German. What's interesting is the first sentence of the DLR press release, stating that (my translation) 'Europe's future and competitiveness in space substantially depend on an autonomous access to space and 'on a drastic decrease in the transport costs of getting there.'" Windows is insecure by design. Quote: 'Between the Blaster worm and the
Sobig virus, it's been a long two weeks for Windows users. But nobody
with a Mac or a Linux PC has had to lose a moment of sleep over these
outbreaks -- just like in earlier "malware" epidemics. This is not a
coincidence.'"

The article is a little thin on how far back these archives go, but regardless, this in a giantic amount of data, and to see it go online, and open to the public is very cool. www.microsoft.com runs Linux? Up to a point ... http://linux.com/article.pl?sid=03/08/24/1351242 Aug. 17 - On Friday Microsoft changed its DNS so that requests for www.microsoft.com no longer resolve to machines on Microsoft’s own network, but instead are handled by the Akamai caching system, which runs Linux.
Versatility, cost spark Linux fever
BART depends on it. So do scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. From Wall Street brokerage firms to Hollywood animators, the Linux operating system, once a hobby for Microsoft foes, has evolved into a potent force in the high-tech industry.

U.S. Army Brings Internet to Saddam's Hometown http://linux.com/article.pl?sid=03/08/23/2242231 TIKRIT, Iraq (Reuters) - The U.S. army opened the first unrestricted Internet access in Saddam Hussein's home town of Tikrit Saturday in a bid to convince skeptical Iraqis their occupation will bring tangible benefits. Dissection of the SCO Vegas presentation http://linux.com/article.pl?sid=03/08/23/1428254 Anonymous Reader writes "I would like to take a moment to bring to your attention some of the glaring problems with SCO's recent presentation in Las Vegas. Their case has always been thin and their story up until this point has been anything but straight and to the point. This is an attempt to point out some of the more obvious flaws."
WeLoveTheSCOInformationMinister.org
Sure, everyone and their brother by now has noticed the striking similarity of SCOfflaw CEO Darl McBride to a certain other individual in the public relations field, generally more well-known but no less reality-challenged. But like his counterpart, "Baghdad McBride" proves himself beyond parody every time he opens his mouth, cramming both feet farther and further in, and until he eventually implodes will no doubt continue to offer up new pearls ...
Dennis Ritchie: I wrote the SCO code
Anonymous Reader writes "Dennis Ritchie has acknowledged he with Ken Thompson wrote the code cited as "proof" by SCO. This seems to fit perfectly with Bruce Perens' Analysis of SCO's Las Vegas Slide Show, and undermine Blake Stowell's claim "At this point it's going to be his word against ours"." Linux shows security superiority to Windows http://linux.com/article.pl?sid=03/08/23/1436244 Nine years ago this month, a student from the University of Helsinki in Finland released upon the world a piece of software code that would go on to revolutionize the way people think of computer software. When Linus Torvalds began working on his now famous Linux kernel in 1991, the idea of "free software" was unheard of. Today, Linux is installed on millions of PCs and is being embraced by hobbyists and professionals alike. Thanks to companies ...
