Via's were once based on Cyrus (spelling) chips. Cyrus chips' FPUs were always bad. Actually, in the Intel clone market I think the first FPUs to challenge Intels were the ones that came with the original Athlon from AMD... On the other hand, if you're doing office stuff and not graphical multimedia, who really needs a fast FPU? Most of the time my Athlon 650 at home, for example, sits idle and does absolutely nothing.
