>Description:
running an fdisk or a disklabel on a volume that is on a 3ware 6800 series board causes a kernel panic. the 3ware boards i have tried this on all have the latest firmware and i did wait for the volumes to finish profiling. i have repeated this experiment with the same results on 3 different motherboards and three different 8 port 6800 cards in addition to a 2 port 6800 card. this problem has been around for a while, and I tried to get some solutions via misc@openbsd.org to no avail. i see in the daily log some panics were fixed at some point before oct 3... my sources were updated on oct 8 and this problem is still there.
>How-To-Repeat:
install openbsd on a separate root disk, say an IDE disk. boot up, try to setup the volume on the twe with fdisk or disklabel.
>Fix:
after installing 3.1-stable, get a floppy29b image and put it on a disk. boot into that floppy, goto shell and use the fdisk, disklabel and newfs tools to setup the volume. reboot into 3.1-stable and now you can edit the fstab and mount the volume without any problems.
