To follow up on myself:

I thought it was a problem I could fix by upgrading to the latest source:

So I `make depend' for the kernel with egcc and changed ${CC} to /usr/local/bin/egcc on line 9 in /usr/src/sys/arch/i386/stand/etc/Makefile.

After that I could `make build' again.

After the mergemaster-session and the reboot I tried the `make depend' for the kernel again. Still the same problem.

This happens on two machines, one athlonXP1700+ and a PII400

Do you need help?X

Both are running normal GENERIC without any out of the ordinary changes.

To try to figure out why /usr/bin/cc dumps core I tried to build cc with debugging symbols but that broke the build.

If somebody has tips to usefully debug this please let me know.
