Boot-time freeze-up on Sotec 3120X

I'm having a lockup when trying to boot from the OpenBSD cdrom*.fs. I started with 3.2, and tried the latest snapshot after that failed. You can find the specs of this notebook here: http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11202591&m=488&cat=494&scat=495

Other OSes--In case it is of interest:
 I have the same problem with NetBSD 1.5.  I was able to install Slackware Linux 8.1 without a hitch, but the system would freeze when trying to boot the full kernel (after installation was finished--from the hard drive).   FreeBSD was able to install without a hitch, but it did not work with the PCMCIA adapter, nor did USB work (for anything besides a mouse/keyboard).
 Solaris 8 x86 10/01 installed just fine, but reports a problem with the PCMCIA controller (and isn't very up-to-date anyhow).  Sadly, it looks like Windows is the only thing that works and supports all the hardware.

Messages:
 If you would like me to include something else (eg. the output from an OpenBSD boot option, the output of a Solaris/FreeBSD command) or have a new OpenBSD boot image or option for me to try, just let me know (preferably ASAP--if I can't get anything working, I will be returning the notebook within just a few days).

I booted with the "-c" option, and turned on verbose messages. Here is a copy of the last screenfull of verbose boot messages--where it locks-up.

>>> atapiscsi probe returned 0
>>> probing for wd*
>>> wd probe returned 1
>>> wd probe won

wd0 at pciide0 channel 0 drive 0: <IC25N020ATCS04-0> wd0(pciide0:0:0): using PIO mode 4, Ultra-DMA mode 2
>>> probing for atapiscsi*
>>> atapiscsi probe returned 0
>>> probing for wd*
>>> wd probe returned 0
>>> atapiscsi probe won

atapiscsi0 at pciide0 channel 1 drive 0
>>> probing for scsibus*
>>> scsibus probe returned 1
>>> scsibus probe won

scsibus0 at atapiscsi0: 2 targets
>>> probing for cd*
>>> cd probe returned 2
>>> probing for sd*
>>> sd probe returned 0
>>> probing for st*
>>> st probe returned 0
>>> cd probe won

End of verbose boot messages.

At that point, it will hang. I've left at that point, for about an hour, just in case it would eventually progress... it didn't.

Let me know if there is anything else you need to know, and especially if there is a possible workaround (within the next few days). Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now. http://mailplus.yahoo.com Received on Sun Dec 29 23:03:08 2002
