I have now identified the place where the crash happens. It's in netstart (if that wasn't already obvious). The line that causes the crash is this one:

# Set the address for the loopback interface.
# It will also initialize IPv6 address for lo0 (::1 and others).
ifconfig lo0 inet localhost

..anything more I can do to debug the problem further?
