I'm happy with that and the extra cross-reference in umass(4), so my issues are addressed, but I suspect that you'll have fewer mails to misc/tech if mount_msdos(8) contains some kind of reference -- simply because the sort of person trying to mount msdos areas is more likely to have a background using fdisk partitioning and not disklabel; my patch's mention of "i" was too specific, yes. But some kind of explicit note like:

should always be used to determine the device-name to be used, even for .Xr fdisk 8
partitions.

should reduce further the number of false bug-reports filed and mailing-list complaints about device-not-configured errors.

It provides more justification for "RTFM -- how much clearer can we get?" responses. ;^)
