Apache + php + Mysql working out of the box.

Hi,
I've just built a 3.2-stable box with mysql and php, however when trying to do a mysql_connect() I started running into problems, mostly because Apache is chrooted, I fixed it by hardlinking /var/www/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock to /var/run/mysql/mysql.sock, and later by changing /etc/my.cnf so mysqld put the socket in the former location.

Question is, is this "normal" and right? Have I missed anything else less obvious? (it all _seems_ to be working fine)

Also db access permissions is, out-of-the-box, pants - but can't we fix this in the ports tree? (rename root, give all accounts passwords, remove remote access and bind to 127.0.0.1, - anything else?)

Am I going to get a "Go right ahead..." answer ? :-)

Tar,
Dom

This is your 3rd very basic question in less than two days. These question all have the same answers: read the FAQ, use man (-k), read the mail archives, use google.

In this case, the answer is in the FAQ.

And read <http://www.openbsd.org/mail.html>
